Well it's Thursday here but as a number of you are so far behind I might just squeak in. :) Here's the latest WIP - it's a safari print cut into strips of random sizes (I let the fabric talk to me and tell me where) with blue homespun and grey linen. There are processions of animals walking across it - lions and rhinos oh my!
I'm going to do straight line quilting for this one I think and bind it in the same grey.
I'm a bit late posting as I've had two days down south visiting schools again (LOVELY hotel this time, thank you Ms/Mr Taxpayer - not extravagant by any means and the darn schools tried to starve us out and didn't feed us lunch 2 days in a row, but the hotel made up for it and for the grotty one last trip). But it had an indoor pool and a fabulous hot spa. :) One little annoyance on the trip was a skin irritation on my hand but I figured I'd nicked it somewhere and it would heal. But it got worse and turned into a painful little rash so I headed to the local medical centre when I got home. I don't usually go there but they are open after hours which is convenient. The doc told me I had cold-sore-type herpes (!!! not the STD type - let me tell you I was freaked out till he explained that!). He decided to do a swab with a not very sharp pointed wooden skewer. Let me tell you, it is NOT pleasant having your hand skewered with a piece of wood. It took him 5 attempts and I was screaming by the end. No sterile wipe, no anaesthetic. Anyway, he sent me off with a VERY expensive script ($60 - that's a layer cake or 12 local or 20+ imported fat quarters!). Now I'm not medically minded or trained at all, but it had all seemed rather odd (especially the skewering) so I decided to stay off work and go to my own doc this morning. Misdiagnosis. I have SHINGLES. Ugh. Wrong medication, maybe too late to prevent the worst now and HURTS to move my right hand so not sure how I'll go sewing as I can't hold a pen. 2 days off work and maybe can't even sew! :( So I had to go home via the fabric store and console myself with some solids. Don't they look pretty?
In all the time I lived in Brisbane, I never found a good GP. Add that to how I could never figure out why it was cheaper to see a private specialist than a GP and it's no wonder I got into the habit of avoiding the doctors as much as possible.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear some things haven't changed. Glad you've got a GP that was able to help and I totally understand the fabric of consolation. Very pretty. Do you have plans for it already?
Ouch! I am so sorry! Had a teacher friend here who had it on his face. I saw everyday how much it hurt. I hope it heals quickly and the fabric medicine helps!

ReplyDeleteI had a friend who got shingles on her back. Every day I had to drive to her place and put cream on for her - urgh!
