Thank you so much to everyone on their lovely comments on my last WIP Wednesday post. It was really encouraging. Especially to see those who have more on the go than me! But I really must do something about getting things finished, and WIP Wednesday almost encourages me... Another chronic WIPper, M-R and I decided we should cheer each other on to finish some projects. WhIP each other into shape, so to speak. We thought we'd co-host something and anyone who wants to join us can. So we came up with...
Thank Goodness It's Finished Friday!
Check back here on Friday for the first TGIFFriday or see its permanent home to find out where it is and how you can join in!
Now, progress report. As an ex-teacher, I'm quite good at writing reports:
"Laura's progress this week was quite satisfactory. However mechanical malfunctions caused a disappointing lack of finishes. Laura should try harder to not let lint-balls the size of field mice accumulate in her sewing machine".
BOTH machines went on strike. I cleaned, oiled, changed needles, but the top threads persisted on breaking. Grrr. I can do without one, but BOTH?!
Black and white quilt - made some good FMQ progress. Would have made more except for bleep[insert swear word here]-ing machine.
World map play mat - VERY good progress. Got tested (see photo) and I got half the binding on before machines went on strike.
Incidently, I am NEVER working with thick poly wadding again. In fact, I have come up with an ingenious two-step solution to the 'cotton wadding is too thin for play mats on hard floors' problem.
Step 1) Buy two yoga mats
Step 2) Lay them out and put thin quilt over top.
Easy!
I have to say, I have the worlds best dogs with babies. They are quite happy to act as personal trainers to pre-crawlers who wriggle and try to crawl to follow the floppy tail. And they don't mind being grabbed, having their fur pulled (those ears are meant for pulling) or poked. (I think it's partly because babies are often dirty and taste of food.)
And I FINISHED two mug-rugs. Go me!!!
NB: Baby is NOT mine. She's the newest addition to the Quilt Quality Assurance team and only comes for QQA meetings.

I really like the idea of TGIFF! And what an adorable baby!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, Laura! What a sweet baby and lovely dogs!

That is a good solution for a thin quilt! :) can't wait to see the world quilt when it's finished, Laura -- it's looking great so far!
ReplyDeleteLOL!! Love the TGIFF...But LOL at/with the school report...remove your name, add mine 2 reports FINISHED...LOL...sorry, I couldn't resist. OK, back to my regularly scheduled coffee....
ReplyDeleteHehe, I love your progress report!
ReplyDeleteGood idea with the yoga mats -- my parents have Pergo floors, but ever since they became Babysitters Supreme, they've covered it with foam and yoga mats. Now it's really comfy! :D
nice work....try re threading...that usually works for me...
ReplyDeleteI can't seem to see the pics, but I'm going to have to check out TGIF Friday. Sounds like a good incentive to complete things...unless it's only quilts. Then I might only post every 6 weeks or so LOL
ReplyDeleteI didn't know anything about TGIFF but I finished binding a quilt yesterday! This is a month of small items so I'm hoping lots of finishes!
