Between now and the end of the world

I'm hopping on board with Giles' idea of making a list of quilting to-do's between now and the end of the world... Wanna join in? I feel the need to make a list but I can't get on board with Sarah at Fairyface's Winter quilting list, cos it's summer here. Cue another rant about hemisphere discrimination in blogland:

I can cope with a Spring quiltalong when I know our Autumn is warmer and shinier than many Springs around the world. But I can't do winter after 3 months of 'Fall', which includes Halloween (which we don't do), Thanksgiving (ditto) etc... The sky here is blue and the temperature is rising and heading for 30C for Christmas day.

I am going to spend Dec 25 at my parents' place in Yanchep. We may have a late afternoon drink at the national park where the kangaroos come out by the lake at sunset to graze on the grass. Or we may spend the sunset hour on their balcony overlooking the Indian Ocean with a cold beer or glass of chilled white wine or champagne in hand.
There will definitely be a turkey roasting in the Weber BBQ outside with the smell driving the three dogs mad.
Mum will definitely cook too much food and say "never again". (It happens every year).
I will definitely have a drink by the pool and a swim if it's hot.
I might pop down theYanchep lagoon and see if I can spot this guy:

Right, I feel better now. You can keep your winter. ;)

So, between now and the end of the world...

  • I'm going to make a dent in my WIP pile.
  • I'm going to make a Lorax quilt.
  • I will try and get the Year of the Dragon quilt finished and published.
  • I want to get a pattern published online, whether by patternspot or some other forum, just to see if I can do it.
  • I will learn to live for today instead of worrying about what may never happen.
  • The point above may include blowing a deal of my savings on a sewing machine that I love instead of curse.
  • It may also involve travelling for quilting and hitting something like The Sewing Summit or a Quilt fair in the US.
  • I will start Swoon.
  • I will learn to draft patterns and use design software.
  • I will weed out some of my old floral fabrics I will never use.
  • I will dye my own fabric and try sun-resist dyes.
  • I will have a go at batik again but for my own purposes instead of as a filler lesson for Indonesian language students at the end of term 4. Will go with this tutorial first: http://eyesaflame.blogspot.com/2008/06/demo-flour-paste-batik.html

What are you going to do between now and the end of the world?

Just for fun, here's a terrible Christmas song by Aussie icon of the 80s, about 6 White kangaroos who take over for the reindeer when Santa heads Down Under. Enjoy!

  1. if it's possible your post makes me feel even chillier than I did before! lol you're definitely in the right place for "winter" with the pool and the bbq and drinkies! I might just pop around if the temperature here drops another degree!!

I did intend to try and do a button for the Between Now And The End Of The World list ... I will put my mind to it and see if I can make one in time for people to click along and do their lists over Christmas!

My list meanwhile just keeps growing longer (in my head, even if I haven't added to the list on my post!_ ... it's getting to the point where my goal will be to make a dent in the to-do list!

I like your list ... a mix of practical behaviours, crafty projects, and media gratification, with a healthy splash of wine for good measure!... you need the free motion thingumyjig on the list too!

Let's book a table at the restaurant at the end of the world and compare how we got on with our lists!

I'lllisten to the dancing kangaroos later .. gotta get ready for work, ugh!

  2. That's quite a list - I wish you luck with it!

Can you send some summer to the eastern seaboard? We made 22°C in the city and 25°C in the "west" today - wow! And a day of sunshine would be a most welcome change! Christmas is forecast to be - you guessed it, raining and mild!

  3. On my list I want to put "don't buy any fabric for a year", but I think I'm too weak to do it. Good luck with your list. Enjoy your lovely summer, I'm jealous.
    Happy Holiday!!

  4. Did you do a typo for your Christmas temperature? Is it only going to be 30 not near 40? Nice if it is - last year was SO hot! I guess I should really check out the weather forecast.
Good luck with your (long) list!
And if you aim to go to the sewing summit at some point then let me know. I'd love to go but I'm way to chicken to travel to the USA by myself these days for some reason. But I'd go with a sewing buddy :)
    xx

  5. ok really you can not moan about us having to suffer through this miserable winter (even if we join together and blog about it since it's dark and cold outside) while you 'suffer' sunshine, daylight and general merriment of all things Summer. Once more Laura and I'll hurl a snowball at you.
Your list is wonderful and I love everything on it - good for you!! :)

  6. Drinking cool wine in 30 degrees ... Hmmmm. I could do that. Sure you don't want to trade a few days of short, cold and wet days with me. Sun gets up (doesn't mean it's shining though) at 8.30 and are down by 3.30. Can't remember when I last saw my house in daylight or when I last took a decent picture of my quilts. But...only a few days more and then it will turn lighter and in 3 months it should be almost human conditions here again LOL

  10. I love the idea of this list. I saw this post a couple of days ago and I've been trying to think of what I'd put it. Your list is a real inspiration. I wish you luck with all that and a very Merry Christmas :)

Yippee - you're commenting! I _love_ comments. :) I've had so much spam lately though that I'm limiting to registered users for a bit to see if that works... If you're a friend, you can find me on Facebook and comment that way if you have trouble.
