Not much progress on WIPS. Lately, I've acted as prosecutor in the case against Lazy Laura, particularly on Friday with the Lazy Girl Advent Calender. Today I'm going to act as defence and show you an WIP that I started earlier this year.
Heard of McKenna Ryan?
Defense presents Article 1 - individually cut flower blossoms. (I can't remember what these flowers are called, sorry - bear or dog something?).

Item 3: the only block I've fully quilted so far - free motion quilting in invisible thread, picking out waves in the water.

And here is the whole thing so far...
It has a very Canadian feel to it to me. I love the fabrics used and the way they shade from dark to light. Hoffman prints fabric especially for McKenna Ryan. I love her work but not sure I'll do another one like this! Of the 8 blocks, I think I love the bears climging the white tree trunk best (looks like ghostgum bark to me). The first block was the mountains, lake, fisherman and eagle - and that was the hardest. And Man was cutting out those pine trees annoying! I think the moose amongst the elms is going to be the hardest to quilt. I've considered making another of the trout leaping blocks for my brother who is a keen fisherman, but I better finish this one first. :) And the duck block - I love that lavender sun setting into the water - the block is called "All a Loon in the mist". Wow. You can't see it here but there is a 3D dragonfly on it.
So, ladies and gentleman (singular as far as I know but do leave a comment boys if you're out there) of the jury, the defence rests its case. No one who cut and appliqued all this could possibly be Lazy. :)
It is around 64" square and I'm aiming to have a finish by February for a
TGIFF (check the blog for who is hosting this week). Biggest problem is I am going to have to move house to get a wall big enough to display it. :D

Oh my goodness, that is a lot of work and I think each block in itself should count for a finish!!! I was going to say it looks like Alaska, lol. I am feeling lazy cause I have been doing small projects, none of my quilt tops are making it out of their playpen! I really can't believe those flowers are individually cut, wow.

ReplyDeleteIt looks very Canadian to me too! I love all the different elements and can see how much work has gone into it - definitely not lazy! It will look beautiful hanging on a wall so you better make room!

ReplyDeleteStunning quilt - I LOVE McKenna Ryan's designs. You've motivated me to complete my At Home in the Woods quilt. I have the whole top completed (yes those little pieces are a pain to cut out!) but have been avoiding quilting it for months. Thanks for sharing!

oh my goodness, i LOVE this quilt! this is EXACTLY the vibe i was going for in my daughter's nursery and with the quilt i made her.... and that turned out like a hobo's rags compared to your piece of art! i'm so so in love with this!
