I'm too sexy for this quilt...

Wow! An incredible response to the SewMamaSew giveaway! How exciting!

Now I need help.

Australian Patchwork and Quilting are doing a profile on me in March, but I have to organise my own photos. They want two photos of me, "but none of those boring standing in front of a quilt mugshots". (I think the new assistant editor wants to liven things up a bit). So how would you sexy up a quilt photo? Drape me seductively in a quilt? Wrap me in fabric? Quilting in the bath? (Just a bit concerned that all my ideas involve nudity. What does this say about the state of my psyche? Hmm...).

I know we are all giveawayed out but I could use ideas. I will send four random fat quarters to the person who gives me the most outrageous (yet manageable) suggestion. (I shall say right now that I expect the most deviant comments to come from Lucy, Giles, Sarah and Erin. Although there are a few others of you I suspect of having hidden depths of depravity. Don't disappoint me. Oh, checked facebook and Erin has already suggested quilted fig leaves. Any psychs following who could give us discount rates for joint counselling?)

Extra bonus points if you are a photoshop ninja and can make me look like quilting goddess/supermodel. Or send me a pattern for a quilted mask.

Now, random photo then suggest away.

  1. What about hanging upside down on Monkey bars?
Lying on your stomach on a bed with your legs in the air & your hands under your chin?
Running around with it flying behind you as a cape?

So how's that - no nudity at all :) LOL...
(but my word verification is uncycoc, so take that as you will...)

  2. How about lying under a quilt you made? Then clothing is optional :)

  3. Of course, my original idea is the winner (is it wrong that I keep picturing it in my mind?).

Otherwise... to head down a non-nude path (boring!) how about you peeking over the top of a quilt... with just your eyes showing. No Photoshop needed! Uh huh. Genius. ;)

  4. LOL...sounds like lots of fun for you...how about the large quilt draped over your shoulder and back..take a shot of your back; of course. Thenk seductively turned around showing the rest of the quilt...and maybe just your naughty looking expression and a long bare leg sticking out of that beautiful quilt??????

Only a tiny bit of nudity..the leg..I know that is just what you were thinking...right??????/LOL

  5. You so need to send a seductive "through the window" shot otherwise known as a stalker shot :) you and the man of your choice (mine right now is Michael Buble!) wrapped up and a 3rd party taking the picture through a window!
OR Post skinny-dipping shot wrapped up warm in a quilt
OR OR OR (this is too much fun) You could bury yourself in your fabric stash with just your head and toes peeking out!

I also like the super woman idea :D

  6. Or... we could string a quilt up between a few trees and you can sit on it pretending it's a flying carpet. ;)

  7. I had a few of my more creative ones taken unfortunately...

How about you hang the quilt on the wall, have you in a claw-foot bathtub with tons of bubbles (bare shoulders, but all your bits are covered), hair piled on top of your head (maybe add a slight curl for that disheveled elegant look), light streaming from the window hidden by a antique lacy curtain...Maybe a few of your other projects scattered or hanging up around in the picture...soft lighting...

So it probably sounds more like the cover of a romance novel at this point, but I had to give it a try...I am never receive-awayed out (meaning still going for more giveaways!)

  8. You could do like the princes and the pea and sit on a pile of quilts.

    OR

You could bury yourself in a bunch of quilts, or scraps, or stash with your face showing.

    OR

Dress in black, work on a quilting project for a few hours so that you are good and linty, tie a scrap around your hair and then take the picture. You would be like lady in add for rice crispy treats only a quilty version.

  9. Hmm, okay, it's summer there, right? Don the bikini and arrange yourself seductively on top of the quilt in the middle of a nice big park somewhere...

Or, take it to the beach with you, hang it up wind break style and pretend you're getting changed behind it.

Or you could be hanging one on a washing line where we could just see your head and feet (clothing optional)

Or grab a loved one, wrap it around the pair of you and pretend you're running off after doing something naughty...

    I'd better stop here lol

  10. Have all your lovely quilts hanging from a washing line,(preferably a Hills Hoist!) with you swinging on the line too! All us Aussie kids did that when we were little, didn't we?!!! Probably not naked though!!!!!!!

  11. have you gotten some newsletters from fat quarter shop? they have some creative ways to take pictures.... wearing a quilt like a cape, hmm can't think of any other right now

    ReplyDelete
  12. Grab the highest heels you have, the shortest shorts and a bikini (it's summer out your way, right?). Use one of your quilts to "wash" your car with. That'll get the guys' attention! Or, you could go a different route... if memorable's all you're going for, take a picture of you quilting on the toilet!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Wrapped in a quilt is pretty awesome. I'm thinking toga/Greek goddess style. You could also clip to the shower curtain and then peek around it. (That way you could be nude or not)

  14. too funny laura - i like the shower version - poking your head out from behind the quilt/shower curtain, either in a shower cap or with your hair on top of your head - artfully dishevelled - or alternatively, use the quilt as you would a towel, and take the photo through a cheval mirror - good luck - looking fwd to seeing what transpires!

  15. I refuse to quilt on the toilet!!! That one is out! Soooo many good suggestions here!

  16. I was jotting these down in work!

Aurifil to sponsor “perfect stitching” and wrap you in nothing but their thread, You would look like Li Lui from 5th Element.

Go romantic … dress up in nightwear of your choice (pink andfluffy or slinky lace, your choice!), and put candles around the quilt (don't set
fire to yourself though, I said look hot not burn up!), and then curl up on top of a quilt on your bed.

If I were a Photoshop genius I’d suggest wearing a really stylish plain dress in a solid black or white, and then using photoshop to map a quilt over it as a texture, so the quilt takes on the folds of the material … I’ve seen it done but no idea how they did it! It’s called texture mapping though. You literally could wear the quilt and look great!

You could take a photo in bed, under the quilt, snuggled up to the sewing machine with just your head and shoulders and the end of the machine sticking out!

I think all the saucier ideas have been perfectly captured in the previous comments! Loved reading all those! (definitely brightened up a dull work day!!)

  17. I'm glad I kept reading and laughing to the end. Whith friends like this, who needs a picture anyway?

    ReplyDelete
  18. hehehehe!! You know me too well.
I think you should climb a tree, it would be so perfect. You sitting on a branch, holding the quilt (to conceal your modesty!) ;)
But seriously this would look so beautiful in a tree or woodland :)

  19. Too funny! Hmmm, Ella said my original idea (quilt as a shower curtain). I think it would be fun if you took it to a landmark in Perth, maybe a famous statue that you can pose with? Have fun! You could also attack random strangers or tourists with it...in a fun and charming way of course...and they'd have a funny story to tell people about their day in Perth...cause you'd never really attack someone with a quilt...that would be very, very wrong...funny, but wrong.

  20. Congrat's about the mag as for a suggestion for your photo shoot, how about one of the pics show you opening up either a cupboard or the fridge door and have whichever one it is, full of folded quilts, and you gesturing a 'ssssh' to the camera? Hugs Naomi

    ReplyDelete
  21. you could watch the movie "Calendar girls" for inspiration - that could work behind a sewing machine too - with a quilt "in" (?under? .. hmm sewing English is not my thing) the machine

    ReplyDelete
  22. Lots of great...and funny suggestions here!!!
mine?? How about curled up in a quilt in a window seat with a book...light streaming in softly lighting you deep in thought and reading?....glass of wine within reach ;)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Okay, one idea would be you after a sewing bender. You're passed out at the machine, the sewing table is littered with quilts, fabrics, empty bottles of Jack (or a good Aussie equivalent), and your clothes are on inside out.

Or get a trucker hat that says, "Rock Out With Your Block Out"

    ReplyDelete
  24. Okay, the sewing bender made me laugh hysterically. I like the bathtub ideas. You could have a bunch of quilts folded just right all filling up the bathtub instead of water. And I think we're unanimous in thinking a glass of wine must be in the picture!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Standing in the bathroom in front of the shower wrapped in a quilt, like a towel?
Have a picnic on a quilt?
    I love the mask idea.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oh my gosh, these are hilarious! I don't have any witty or fun ideas to add. How can you top the sewing bender?!

  27. Hey Laura! Sorry I'm "late to the party"....haven't been on the computer in about a week. Congrats on being featured in the magazine, that is soooo cool! Of course we don't get that mag here, so please be sure to show on your blog the spread once it comes out!

I'm just gonna throw my idea out, even though you've already chosen one - just for fun! You could show yourself standing at the open front door, dripping wet with your hair up and wrapped in the quilt (instead of a towel), greeting the postman at the front door. You would have a devilish look on your face, and he (being young and good looking) would have a look of great surprise on his! (I suggest to get your friend Jason to dress up as the postman! LOL!!!)

Can't wait to see your article, and the photos of you in it! :o)

    XOXO,

    Cyndi
