Most unseasonal thunderstorms after days of hot and humid (around 100F or 36C). Really freaky weather for us. Doggles stayed inside. I had to go to work. BOOO.
When we moved out from UK when I was a tiny wee girlie, my mother thought we had moved into a 'poor' neighbourhood because of the 'poor little children running around with no shoes on'. We learnt that it is an Australian preference given both the weather and necessity to prove we are tough (try walking barefoot on tarmac when it's 40 degrees in the shade). So although there was thunder and lightning and a hail threat, I braved the back porch barefoot to take these for you (cos that's how I roll!).
Kona sour apple (my happy colour) bordered in grey. Plus a yellowy green and a lavender also bordered in grey
My grandmothers would have said I looked like a gypsy.
royal blue, pale blue and lavendar... And chipped orange nail polish - Laura needs a pedicure.
My work colleague says it is because I know my genetically determined place - I've got the barefoot right but not the pregnant or in the kitchen bit... He narrowly avoided a broken nose.
lemon, pale aqua blue and cornflower
Sorry, can't tell you the exact colours but can examine my Kona card later if you like.
I got this done on the weekend - I had to force myself and could only do some straightforward seams after my marathon finish. But as I have over 20 of you lovely people signing up to FMQalong, I had to do it. And I was glad I did. :) Colours make me happy.
Still time to win your own set of 6.5" squares in my giveaway! I'll draw it Sunday.
Post script:
I have been accused of favouritsm (showing photos of Patches and not Lainey), I'm evening up the playing field.
It is honestly because she's a bit camera shy. At least compared to Patches who is a total camera slut.
Lainey was a pre-not-loved dog - 3 years of mistreatment before she came to me and it took her a while to get over being kicked. Although she is not the brightest dog you will ever meet, she is one of the most gentle and sweet natured.
She is particular about being photographed with her own colours so the black and white quilt suited her to sneak onto yesterday. Lainey is a tricolour Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. This means that she is black and white mostly with touches of tan. She sleeps with her tongue out and DRIBBLES so I have to keep her off my quilt or that will turn tricolour too. (Patches is what is known as blenheim - tan and white, but he has been known to turn himself tricolour by digging madly in black mulch. He is my problem child.)
Look at how resentful she looks!
Now go enter that giveaway!
Thunder can be very scarry. Hope it is all over soon.
ReplyDeleteLove the puppies. Laney is beautiful and looks just as sweet as you describe.
We like to go barefoot in Texas too....'cept today it is too darn cold. With the wind and the rain it feel like 23 F out side....that is -5 C. Burrrr.
And now I have that song stuck in my head :)
ReplyDeleteI miss the awesome big electrical storms, but not the extreme heat and humidity. So I guess that evens it out.
The running around in bare feet had me chuckling. My neighbours all comment about me always being barefoot in the garden and house. Though not so much outside at this time of the year.
I love both your kids. And yes, that's a very indignant look :)
Great job getting prepped for your FMQ-QAL (I love confusing my husband by stringing it all together). How exciting that there are already 20 people! I love your color choices for middles, I haven't quite picked a color scheme yet.
ReplyDeleteThat cracks me up what your mother thought when you moved there are about the "poor" children! I think I spent most of my childhood shoeless, but then I also have a lot of scars on my feet from that too, lol.
PS, I have that song in my head too....
ReplyDeleteI love thunderstorms but occasionally we get one which is just too much!
ReplyDeleteI love the use of solids only and the grey makes the other colours zing!
I've just turned up my central heating to 100F so I can run around the house barefoot too! otherwise it's brrrrr very cold outside! ... but then again I'm sure there are crazy people here go for a dip in Lake Ontario on Christmas Day or New Years (once you've done it once it freezes your brain forever so you can do it again in subsequent years!)
ReplyDelete... I'll happily take 10 degrees or so off your hands if you an spare them!
When i was a kid, we only had one pair of shoes and wore those to school and church. If it rained I took them off and went barefoot because I just hate wet shoes. My feet have permanent frostbite from those days.
ReplyDeletethese are going to be fabbo when fmq'd - very nice - and very organised!
ReplyDeleteaaahh Lainey is so cute! Love the feet shots :)
ReplyDeleteOrange polish is lovely too!
HAHAHA I am soooo silly sometimes! I was reading this in google reader and thinking - man, that sounds JUST like Perth weather!! Then I realised that of course it did, because you are TALKING about Perth weather lol...
ReplyDeleteAnyway, moving on from my dumb dumb brain ;)... I can't wait to see what you're going to come up with for the solids & quilt along. Looks fun!
(Pick me.... pick me.... pick me.... pick me.... ) (those are my subliminal messages ;) )
Can you tell I'm writing this past my bedtime by any chance lol
I'm definitely a barefoot person too. Much prefer barefeet to having to bundle up with socks in the winter months.
ReplyDeleteYour four legged furry kid is so cute.
