It's the first WIP Wednesday for me for 2012! My current WIP is the Year of the Dragon. Last update, I had heavily FMQ'd the inside of the circle with jagged ziggy-zaggy quilting, and had started heavily quilting the outside of the circle with an orange Aurifil. Somehow, it looked too overpowering and drew the eye away from the dragon, so I unpicked and trialed using a neutral cream Aurifil and less dense flame free-motion quilting. MUCH happier with this. Hope you can see it.Then it's back to the Bernette to use the walking foot to quilt in the ditch around the borders, then I'm going the orange Aurifil and doing some leaf patterns on the outer sections. Much happier now. (STILL wating on machine solution!)

VERY bad progress here. Regress actually. Total weight loss: minus 200g. Ok, weight GAIN 200g. Grr.
Exercise stats: ran 3.78km (bad), power walked 2.5km (first solo dog-free walk in 11 years - bit sad; pups too sick to go far), rowed 1km, did a 1 hour pump class and hammered myself at the gym. Can we call it muscle?
Diet: had to finish the Christmas chocolates off obviously, and it's rude to let guests drink alone. Now that's done, I'm totally committed. (BTW, does anyone feel like yum cha Sunday?)
Extenuating circumstances: 1) Weighed myself after pump class. How much does a half litre of water weigh? 2) Parents visited and father (who thinks he's Gordon Ramsey, Jamie Oliver and Nigella all rolled into one) took over cooking lesson after asking me to teach him risotto. This necessitated copious amounts of wine to cope with suggestions of adding Chinese 5 Spice for flavour. Honest truth.
Now to wobble on over to MissyMacCreations and link up.
Oh my, your Dad sounds like mine. Loves to experiment in the kitchen with all kinds of crazy flavours. Sometimes it works, often it doesn't. ;)
ReplyDeleteYum Cha on Sunday is fine... it's only itty bitty little pieces afterall. :P
I'd go with muscle.
water weight can easily add 4lb, which is about 2kg ... and you don't have to drink much more than usual to add that ... I know because I did it when my kidney doc told me to be less dehydrated ... the wine should help you lose it, so bottoms up with the bottle!
ReplyDeleteSending good wishes for Patches x
Love your weigh in Wednesday comments...all ringing true for me! Will have to check back next week to see how you're managing with the wine.........
ReplyDeleteWith all that exercising you've done I'm sure you've added extra muscle...muscle weighs more than fat!
ReplyDeleteOh now why did you have to go and mention yum cha...I'm craving spring rolls and dim sims now! :)
Ooh, I like your decisions for the quilting. I didn't notice the leaves in the outer border fabric, orange quilted leaves will be perfect. And changing the colour and density of the flames was just right. I knew what you had before was too strong, but I would never have thought to focus on the colour and width of the design to make it work. I'd have just switched out the design.
ReplyDeleteRemember your weight can fluctuate during the day and weighing at different times can make it seem you've gained if you really haven't. I always try to weigh myself first thing in the morning before I've consumed anything, and while still in light weight pjs. Remember wearing different clothes when you weigh can affect it as well. Some clothes are heavier. I would expect you to weigh a little more after drinking a lot of water during a workout. My other key is how are your clothes fitting? If the scale went up and your clothes are not tighter, your probably gaining some muscle. You did great working out this week! Keep it up, it will pay off in the long run!
ReplyDeleteI adore that dragon and the quilting looks great! You're WIW made me laugh!! Sorry! I'm betting it is muscle after all that exercise :)
ReplyDeleteI appreciate reading posts that talk about what we learn about our quilting and how we care enough to take the time to go back and make it better! The colors are gorgeous and I just want to curl up with the dragon, stay warm and sleep!
ReplyDeleteKeep it up for moderating diet and exercising. It takes a month for you to notice changes in yourself...Good luck!
You sound like me! Try to diet and workout but other fun things get in the way; that's ok; we'll get it done one of these days (kinda like a quilt, lol) :)
ReplyDeleteToo funny!! I too had to finish up the Christmas chololate and cookies, so they wouldn't be around to tempt me!! Makes sense to me!
ReplyDeleteFab quilt and quilting!
ReplyDeleteOh dear, sorry about the weigh in wobble! As an ex-rower though, I can tell you, skip the rowing. Unless you know what you're doing (and I don't mean that in a bad way, it's just I've yet to see a gym attendant teach anyone the right way to use an ergo) and you can put in about 50km on the thing, it's not helping you, seriously, do some classes, much better!
ReplyDeleteThe quilting looks great! I can't wait to see the entire quilt. Thanks for linking up to WIP Wednesday. : )
