WIP Wednesday

I'm just squeaking in with WIP Wednesday. I've been back and forth to the vets with Miss Lainey (ear infection and sores on her chin) and Miss Melody (desexing). Poor babies. Melody was dopey and cuddly after the op but woke up about midnight (she slept on the bed so I could keep an ear on her for scratching her dressing) and alternately crept up the bed so I woke up with her nose in my face and scratched and bit at her dressing. So we had to go with bucket-head dog in the morning. I have never seen a dog so literally sulk - she feigned deafness and went on hunger strike till I took it off. (I lasted 5 mins with the hunger strike. One, two, three 'PUSHOVER'). Anyway, not so much quilting has been done.

Lorax - hand quilting continued. Machine quilting finished. Edges cut off ready to bind - just because I could!
Loving this quilt.

I'm just not sure how to quilt in the bigger blocks where there are less outlines to follow like the ones on the left.




Borders 'wonky'/organically quilted to keep with the wonky improv theme of the whole quilt.

Secondly, some progress to my ABC quilt.

Quite honestly, I'm not impressed with my quilting here, but it's more important at this stage to get some quilts FINISHED than to create a masterpiece that never will be.

So I went with some very random loose FMQing. Not looking toooooo bad, but started and couldn't stop so I kept going. Using Aurifil in a dark red which is nice, 28 weight. (Lovely).



But then, I'd made good progress when disaster struck.

A FREAKING HOLE. AGAIN! WHA...? HOW? Do I have an invisible moth plague?!
Sigh. This can't be appliqued over (I don't think - the quilt is busy enough as it is). It would be a nightmare to remove a wonky section from the middle of a wonky quilt and repiece. I considered it. 5 times. For about 5 seconds. Then I decided to try decorative machine stitches over the top. Sigh. That means more decorative stitches everywhere. I'm not sure I haven't made it worse. What CAN I do?!
Curses.
Or ... magic spells?
By the power of Greyskull ... Nope, that didn't work either. Sigh. Where are Sabrina and Samantha when you need them?

    Your quilt looks very fun. I have some Dr. Seuss fabrics to make a quilt sometime for my grand baby.

    Keep your moth issues in your house, I do NOT want them to visit. The dogs, yes. You, yes. The moths, heck NO! If it was me (and you know how *I* am...)I would take a lighter color small rectangle of fabric, write "Gobble" on it, applique it on, quilt over/around it and call it a day. One more piece of color is not going to add to "busy" (ok, keeping it REAL, I would probably add 3 more rectangles with animal sounds done the same way, scattered throughout to even it all up...LOL). I do love, love it, by the way...LOL...

    As for quilting the bigger blocks, what about a simple underlining of the bold words?

    I like the Lorax quilt. Maybe you could hand quilt around the Lorax in white so it's not really visible but makes him seem to puff out of the background. Or you could do a few lines under the words, following their curve...That's all I got, idea wise.

    And I would totally create a little applique for that hole. Maybe a little square with a "T" on it for "Turkey". You could add a couple more (don't go overboard) and call it done!

    Aww, Melody sounds like a lot like my cat. Only, my boy is clever and knows how todo things with the bucket on. He mystified the vets when he managed totake out his catheter. They thought the bucket was too short so put a bigger one on. The didn't believe me when I told him he would have used his paw (claw). But I've seen him take off collars that way.

    That hole sucks. Sorry, no ideas there. Except that it nust be time to fumigate the house tokill whatever's eating your fabric.

    As for the Lorax quilt, since you're hand quilting, I'd go with something different. I'd use a thread the same colour as the background of the block, but do some word play. So for the first one, I'd quilt some trees. And for the second, some fish.

    I'm thinking maybe mice rather than moths-did you have this stored away somewhere for awhile? In that case it may be moths. If this just popped up recently, I would be thinking some other pest....but you would have seen evidence of mice right away, they have no control when it comes to bowel issues. Hope you figure it out before anything else gets damaged. Good luck.

    Laura, silverfish eat fabric too (which I never knew until recently), so keep an eye out for them too :-(
