That's what happened to me.
I have two sets of blocks that are due for this month and I was sure I was going to be late. (What did you think I was talking about?!). As it's not the end of April yet, they're technically not late, but both people posted their instructions halfway through March so I've been feeling rather laggardly. Today (Wednesday) was ANZAC day for Australia - Australia and New Zealand Army Corps rememberance day, celebrated on the day of the battle of Gallipoli. So I had the day off work and decided to focus on sewing. My list ran thus:
- QCA Bee block(s)
- Cherish Do. Good Stitches blocks
- Desparate Housewives block for Jane (it's drawn, but it's going to be at least half an hour choosing fabric!)
- FMQAL blocks for me (final two)
- Keep working on umpteen other projects....
Guess how far I got? Three blocks. That is it. Grrr. Some days time just escapes.
The first is for our Facebook Quilt Club Australia Bee with the tutorial provided by Kristy. If I'm being honest, I didn't love making this block. I like how it looks, except for the chopped off corners of the inner orange triangles. It's meant to be like that (honest, check the instructions and pictures there!), but it looks like sloppy piecing. I'd prefer precise points. It also annoyed me that there was so much cutting of HSTs - down from a 4" square to a 3" square. Felt so wasteful! If I made it again, I'd work out the measurements so that there was not the trimming required.
The next two blocks were Kay's Wild Waves for Do. Good Stitches. I do like how this one looks! Nice clean points here. :)
Being totally honest, piecing is not my favourite thing (gasp!). I'm so much more a fan of applique and big blocks - fiddly ones with lots of pieces drive me up the wall. I want to get more blocks under my belt, which is why I joined one bee and started another. Unfortunately this year my 'real' work is taking up so much of my time that days like today, spent on bee blocks instead of things I really enjoy doing, feel wasted. I really wanted to finish of my FMQAL blocks, create an applique block for Jane and get some other bits finished off.
Ok, enough moaning. Bed time for this tired piecer! Two more days until the weekend!
