Mail mail mail!

It's not every day you get an autograph from your favourite fabric designer.

And it's not every day that you get an envelope stuffed FULL of her own offcuts from her newest line.

Good fortune indeed! (This isn't all of it. This is a section of it AFTER I sorted it into sizes and solids vs prints). Isn't she a generous lady?! How absolutely freaking gorgeous of her!

I squealed.
I swooned.
I rolled in it.

I poured it over myself because I was so excited about a) fabric from Kate Spain herself and b) actually talking to Danny in real life (on Skype) and I really really wanted to brag... (It was so much fun. We waved fabric and quilts at our computers/each other and talked over the top of one another ten to the dozen).

I also bowed to peer pressure this week. There was a coupon from our big craft store in the mail - spend $100 and get $40 off. Now I need to spend $100 at Spotlight like I need a hole in the head. But my Facebook group were discussing how they spent theirs, so I had to go and look...
(The books are courtesy of Book Depository - they arrived last week too. I just love that fabric design book. Wish I had the time...)
Here we have:
  1. some marked down shiny Mettler threads
  2. a pinking rotary cutter and spare blades
  3. a ROTARY rotary cutter (it cuts circles, like a compass draws them) and spare blades
  4. silicone spray and fixative spray (not shown as not terribly thrilling and I had actually miraculously put them away - mostly I just leave stuff out in case I need it)
  5. A Field Guide to Fabric Design
  6. Modern Blocks
  7. and keyboard emoticon/shortcut key fabric which I got elsewhere but hey, I'm showing off.
And one final arrival from Jane of WantItNeedItQuilt - the NEW line from Sweetwater - Sew Mama Sew (Could this collection BE any better?!) and Summerville by Lucie Summers. GOSH. I'll show more pics and review them later. :) (Miss Melody is jealous. I'm playing with fabric and I should be playing with HER!)

Unfortunately, the fabric collection is out of control. There is not much more room left. And unlike you stay-at-home-mums who have nothing to do but pat a baby once or twice a day (and possibly feed it, I'm a bit fuzzy on the details but it sounds like a piece of cake), I have to work, which really limits my sewing time. <ducks flying rotary cutters> So I don't have TIME to sew all the fabric I get my mitts on.

So I'm calling a moratorium ("Again?" "Heard that one before." "How long did the last one last? Two weeks?") on fabric buying BETWEEN QuiltWest and Sewing Summit in October. (Except for Kate Spain and Heather Ross fabrics, naturally). :)

  1. You are to funny. Not buy fabric. Right, I'm going to believe that one! Love the new Sweetwater, I can hardly wait for the local store to get it in.

  2. I justified building the stash while I was working as. "I'll be able to sew sew sew when I retire - and I won't be able to afford to buy then so do it now in preparation."
Maybe that rationale will work for you!

  3. I tried the "I am not going to buy fabric" thing. It lasted only 2 weeks for me too. It didn't help that I won $20 to my LQS in that time frame. I am loving the Summerville!

  7. Like you, I want to be a SAHM.... To a puppy :)
Just think of all the sewing and knitting I could get done.
Haven't figured out how to swing it yet, though.

Good luck with the no more fabric rule. We'll all believe it when we see it :)

Yippee - you're commenting! I _love_ comments. :) I've had so much spam lately though that I'm limiting to registered users for a bit to see if that works... If you're a friend, you can find me on Facebook and comment that way if you have trouble.
