Of festivals and fairs

I had an exciting few days. I'm going to start backwards from this morning, when I got an email from Amy saying my Rabbit Tree (last mention, I promise!) had been nominated in the blogger's quilt festival! There were SO many entries, it is an honour to be nominated, so thank you so much for those of you who did nominate me. :) If you feel like voting, mine's under Best Applique so head on over and vote for your faves now.

On Sunday night, I saw Mary Poppins (the musical) with my mum (with whom I have to have words about wearing velour tracksuits out in public). It was magical (the musical, not mum's tracksuit). I'm not terribly easily impressed, but Mary flying out over the audience was spectacular.

It was our state Quilt Show and Craft Fair over Wednesday to Sunday. Stores from over East and even as far flung as Japan come and have a booth. As we don't have a lot of LQS or craft shops, it's a big shopping opportunity. There are also usually a fair few workshops running. This year, either something else was on or the economic pinch is being felt as a number of my usual favourites weren't there. So I didn't actually binge as I was intending to. I got away with a very modest number of Fat Quarters.

Here we have: 7 rotary blades for $20, several very cute sewing related buttons, some 60 degree diamond paper pieces and a template, and 4 fat quarters (well, 4 for me, there are two others for the other ASS Gurus).

There was still plenty of eye-candy, like this Owl and the Pussycat wall hanging from Helen Godden. Just stunning. The photo does not do it justice.

And one of my favourites was there - KidsQuilts from New Zealand - love her designs. Isn't that 'Once Upon A Time' perfect for a little girl?
The West Australian Quilter's Association puts on 'QuiltWest' which is our biggest quilt event of the year. I had two entries in for the first time. I walked past my dragon three times looking for it before I noticed it, so it really didn't cut the mustard amongst the other great quilts!

Here are two that caught my eye. This one, because I don't normally like photo prints on fabric, but this was done so subtly and well, it really stood out. And the silhouette of the soldier was just so different from the other quilts there, and so not girly, that I kept going back to look at it as I wandered around in my white gloves and apron. The great thing with white glove duty was getting to actually TOUCH the quilts. :) There were LOADS of other brilliant quilts, but not enough time to take photos.

I hope you enjoyed the snapshot of  our local quilt show. Now head on over to Amy's for the best online quilt show and vote!

  5. That soldier quilt is very unusual. I would have loved to have seen it in "real life". Our Stitches and Craft Fair starts this Wednesday but DD and I won't be there till Sunday.

Yippee - you're commenting! I _love_ comments. :) I've had so much spam lately though that I'm limiting to registered users for a bit to see if that works... If you're a friend, you can find me on Facebook and comment that way if you have trouble.
