I got home from work early enough on Friday to take Melody for a decent walk (not a Lainey walk which is more of a stop-start-call-amble) and decided to take my camera and head to the graveyard.
Sound weird? Well, not really. It's a memorial garden with stones set in the grass although there are funerals - both burials and cremations - there. But I figured I was safe that late in the day. The wildflowers are starting to come out and there are LOTS of kangaroos nibbling on the grass. The first time I discovered this, Melody was off leash. I caught her just before she saw the roos. I had horrible visions of mourners being trampled by stampeding kangaroos being chased by a small black and white streak with me hot on her heels screeching MELLOOWWWDEEEEEE!!!
It's a lovely place. Very peaceful. Although I do find this rather creepy:
Anyway, if you can be bothered, here's my photo set, and if you can bear bad video, there's a couple of bouncing kangaroos to follow. :)
Anyway, I am now the proud owner of a lovely NEW Canon DSLR so I hope we'll see an improvement in photo quality. Once I learn to use it... And there's going to be a little photography and piecing project coming soon... You'll just have to stay tuned!

I understand families wanting to be buried together, but a reserved sign?
Anyway, I got some good pictures with my little Canon Powershot. Melody was great (didn't bark or get excited at all) but Kangaroos apparently don't like eau d' cavalier as they kept bouncing away from us. I think this is my favourite shot.

Wow! This was so fun to watch, and very exotic for me as well, since i live in Sweden! Thanks for sharing this and all else, what you do inspire me!
ReplyDeleteBwahahaha, I can just see the comedy chase scene now :oD I also love to take photos in the necropolis (huge graveyard behind the cathedral) mainly because it's the biggest pissing contest you've ever seen for 'headstones'
ReplyDeleteThat is quite possibly the coolest thing I have ever seen. We don't even have kangaroos in our zoos!! I'm sure some of the bigger zoos do in San Diego or something, but not any zoos I've been to! Thanks for sharing this. Maze loved it!
ReplyDeleteThese kangaroos are fabulous! I wish we some here!
ReplyDeleteOMG I loved this. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the object that the leschenaultia looks like it is growing out of? That is a beautiful shot too.
Did that camera peering around the tree have a camera in its pocket? Looks like it wants to take a pic of you!
ReplyDeleteOK, I'm officially losing it - Did that KANGAROO have ...
ReplyDeleteSince I live in the USA, looking at these pics are strange but in a good way! It's always fun to look at other countries' animals and such. Thanks for sharing. Good luck with your new camera, I'm sure you'll love it ;) and of course, I'm looking forward to your tutorial.
ReplyDeleteI like walking through cemetaries too. Not a fan of the lawn ones - I like the old tombstones. Never been to one with roos though :)
ReplyDeleteHehe, yes, I've got that visual running through my mind. But having been to a couple of funerals of people very dear to me, I'd like to say that such a comedic moment would've been welcome. And in both cases much appreciated by the deceased too, had they not been deceased. So .i think you should live a little, and keep her off lead :)
Ooh, new toy. I want one too, but I have to learn to use my camera properly before I up the ante. Looking forward to seeing what you have planned
You're doing just fine with your camera Laura. I'm certain you'll come back from the U.S. with wonderful, drool producing shots. I'm soooo jealous!
ReplyDeleteI spend alot of time in the cemetery;s as my husband does the lettering on the stomes and putting the brass dates on the ones like in your cemetery. We also do restoration work also and I work for him.
