WIP - Paper Piecing!

Phew, the bloghop is nearly organised, but it's still a WIP so I've been working on some of my own WIPS.  I have been ITCHING to get started but can't until I get to the states, get my paper pieces from Danny who has taken delivery of THIS little lot from paperpieces.com.

I can't get my hands on these lovelies either, from Fabricworm, which (ignore the Carry on piece, that's for a friend) are the start of our Travellin Pic-Stitch stash, specially chosen for the colours of Arizona.

Because I can't get near them, I've been working on my own paper piecing WIP. 

AND I decided I needed to be organised about my paperpiecing on the road. I thought about making little clear fronted bags for the bits, but then I thought "Ziplock bags work fine"... So I sewed some ziplock bags together. Yes, sewed... Sewed them to a bit of fabric with some stiff interfacing, bottom side down so they are like the bound pages of a book with the zip side out. This inserts (so it can be removed and replaced into this little folder Lainey is examining) in between the cover and inside pieces. There's one for paper pieces, one for cut fabric pieces, and one for sewn pieces. I can also slide a notebook in between the cover and inside facing for designs.

That's a detachable sandpaper sheet (mounted on card) on the right. The sand paper is useful to put your fabric on when tracing around your shape ready to cut (if you don't have a rotary cutter and board handy, which we won't on the road).

I still have to put a pen holder on the inside and sew the velcro down (the sticky stuff didn't work - sewing through sticky stuff is not fun). And maybe a scissor holder.

I labelled a another ziplock bag "Tessellations" and put the pieces I need in there numbered  - 1 for the centre, the next row out 2, etc, so I don't get confused and waste time laying bits out.
I used some lovely Alexander Henry fabric - I think it's called Kanji but can't quite remember. Love love love it!
