Forgetful Friday

Having had a houseguest for the last week, not a lot of sewing has been done. Fun has been had, puppies have been played with, fish and chip flavoured ice-cream tasted (HONEST!),  but sewing - well, it's been fairly non-existent. In fact, it's been so busy, that SOMEONE forgot TGIFF, which is not good when someone is hostess and co-founder...

Luckily, I realised at 7:30 am, and had a couple of photos on my camera from the last finish...

My parents' neighbour has just had a baby, so mum asked if she could give her my World Map playmate. My mum, being one of the most thoughtful people in the world (she'll read this so I'm expecting major brownie points or at least another cherry cheesecake with roast pork thrown in if I'm lucky), didn't want the new mother's seven year old to feel left out with all the attention the baby would get, so she asked me to make her a bag. Purple and sparkly were the instructions I had to work from...

So I pulled out my stash of Little Peeps and some hologrammatic silver thread and got to work.

It's hard to see in the photo as the sun was so bright, but the 'photo' is surrounded by a decorative stitch with silver hologrammatic thread. You can see it better here.
The back

The pattern is from a line of bags called 'Lauradrawsshapesonfreezerpaperthendecideswhatworks". I'm pleased with the background - I'm just not sure the bag style and shape is right for a 7 year old. Oh well, it's been gifted now so I hope she likes it.

The biggest issue I had was not knowing the 7 year old or her size or how long to make the strap. I borrowed my friend Bev's 7 year old for an approximation, and decided make the strap adjustable. I made the strap extra long, sewed a button hole in one end, looped it through a D ring, and added a couple of sparkly buttons so that it could be shortened or lengthened. I put the rest of the buttons inside so they could be added if it was too short or long.

Quite pleased with the result.

Now I know didn't believe me about the Fish and Chip flavoured ice-cream, so here you are...

And HERE is the linky party. Linky up or just visit some of the lovely party-goers! Happy Friday!

  4. Nice work on the bag, can't go past a bit of glitz to make a 7 year old happy! And may I say that is a catchy name for that line of bags, hope you've registered it! Live and learn - fish and chip flavoured ice cream - who knew? I would just ask what drugs they were on when they even had the idea for that one?!

  6. Cute bag!

The ice-cream sounds gross! Heston Blumenthal made bacon and egg ice-cream so I guess it's a case of anything goes!

  10. Sounds like you've been having a good visit with your house guest, despite dubious food choices.
The bag is lovely, and yes, it's always a good idea to give a present to the big sister/brother when giving gifts to a new baby too. Your mum has obviously had experience with this too :)
Love the name of your pattern range, by the way :)

  11. The purse is really cute. I love the adjustable strap. It was a good solution!
The fish and chips ice cream makes me want to bark. We can pair it with the clam flavored beer in the stores here.
