QAYG = Quilt as you go (quilt one square at a time, not whole big quilt)
FMQ = Free motion quilting
QAL = Quiltalong
FMQML = Free-motion Quilt My Life!
This quiltalong offers a range of options for the super fussy and not-so-confident, so that you will be able to come up with a fantastic looking quilt. (Basic beginner skills are required).
You can determine the number of squares and size of quilt. I am doing 24 squares and am going to lay mine out like this and use solid grey sashing and backing.

Requirements
For the Quiltalong, you need:
- a range of solids in 6.5" squares
- a solid binding colour, cut into 2.5" strips to sash each 6.5" square (Pink Castle Fabrics offers jelly rolls in a range of solid colours - perfect for sashing your squares - 15% off with QQQ15!).
- 11" squares (times the number of squares you are doing) of backing for each square
- 11" squares of wadding, preferably the same type. I am using white-n-warm and warm-n-natural because that is what I have scraps of. I am going to do a 'how to' on joining batting scraps for those thrifty people who have been hoarding scraps
- Thread. LOTS. For less confident, newer FMQ'ers, invisible or matching thread; for intermediate, a medium contrast thread (eg grey); if you're super confident or ready to see all your stitches, go for a high contrast thread like white.

What size will this be?
Heck yes I'm signing up! I'm sew looking forward to this. Ditto on Sunni's question and can I repeat colors? I want to do my in oceany colors, greens, blues and teals, but I'm sure I will have to repeat some of them.
Wow, I think I fit right in, I was thinking ocean colors and wondering what size, before I got to the comment section. That is too funny that we all think alike. Maybe I will rethink my colors.
What fun. I've never did a QAYG quilt yet. Last year I started taking on challenges, bom, qal, etc. that gave me something new to learn. It was great fun and I learned a lot. So this year I'm doing the same. Yay!
I am so in! I like the idea of oceany colours too. I plan on using lots of complimentary prints for the backing to make it kind of double sided. I am also planning on working from my stash for this baby, so that will influence my colour choices.
Maybe this is a silly question, but will the FMQ be highlighted in the squares, or will it be on the sashing, too? The answer may affect my fabric choices!
sounds like fun!
I missed the sign up page D'oh! I'm in for this once I dig out The Beast from it's slumber :)
I love the idea of this QAL! I ventured away from stippling and did a pebble-quilted quilt and an 'echo shells' quilt for two of my Christmas gifts, so I'd love to build on it and do some more :)
I'll gladly sign up. I love the free machine stitching. I was a summer course, but I still have much to learn.
I have colored fabrics. You may apply to any fabric?
I unfortunately can not take buy the pink castle fabrics!
DUUUUDDDDEEEE! I am SO in. I finally stopped fiddle-farting around and bought some Kona so I'm somewhat prepared to follow along.
Very excited about this! I am SO in. :)
I am seriously thinking of joininmg you, but am scared of overcommitting... And I do not have many solids. But it is a way to get me going again... so yes I will give it a go!
I ordered my fabric from Pink Castle, and I swear it was here in three days. THREE DAYS!!! WOW!!! And, I had to order extra sashing fabric, so had to communicate with Brenda - what a sweetie! Great communication, I'm happy with color choices, basically, I'm ready to start cutting and quilting. Bring it on!!!
How great idea to organize this quiltalong. I've learn free motion quiltig since 2010. So I'm just beginner :o)
Count me in, I have losts of coloured solids
Looking for motivation to practise more FMQ. So I'll try this project - should be fun.
Okay, I now have a question. This post you said 11" backing squares, another post you said 12", does it matter - will it be trimmed? Also, in another post you said you want solid for the backing, but you didn't say that in this post. I was planning on using a plain hand dyed/batik that goes with the solids on the front. Is that a problem? My front squares are solid kona cottons, sashed in white.
