Well, the quilting is coming along spiffingly (I feel English today - wait for a True Blood day and you'll get some y'alls thrown in). Using red perle cotton to outline the circles and swirly freemotion quilting (lotsa fun) for the insides and outsides.
And if you think I did it logically and did all the handquilting first and all the machine quilting second, you don't know me at all. I hopped around as inspiration struck.
Got 3/4 of the handquilting done.
Then...
I found a HOLE. In the MIDDLE of a piece of fabric.
In fact, right HERE
Now I could wheedle my way in, unpick just that circle, and fiddle a new piece in...
Or I could applique a poppy over it.
ARRRGHGHGHGHGHGHGH!
See what I mean about a quilter's worst nightmare?

If you have a scrap of the same fabric, or a similarly colored fabric, cut a small piece and place it right side up between the batting and top at the spot of the hole. Fray check the edges of the whole and reverse applique. If you can make sure the quilting goes overt, so much the better.

OK, probably just the small laptop I am on at the moment...because I can't see the hole...LOL...so with that said...If it is big enough I would do what Cindy said...If not, honestly...I can be SUPER lazy, so picking it out to replace the piece wouldn't even be an option...LOL...I am pretty sure I would decide that random (or specific) circles needed "extra quilting, and do a decorative stitch from the machine in a circle strategically covering the hole...but that is me...LOL..if I can avoid a seam/stitch ripper, I do. LOL.

Eek! I think I'd applique but I'm new to quilting so would take the option least likely for me to stuff it up! Good luck with it!
ReplyDeleteI would definitely not pick the quilt apart at this stage! I cannot see the hole either but,depending on it's size either appliquéing something over it, or extra quilting should do the trick. I am really enjoying your blog - first time I have found it! I am in Canada.
