Well, I've done it. I've made a list of the in progress works... It's shameful! So here's my list of shame and some excuses thrown in for good measure...
Finishes this week = 0
New starts = 1 (I had a Good Fortune Layer Cake arrive - HOW could I not start on that when it's not due out till January?!!!)
Kinda new start = 2nd rabbit tree quilt - MUCH faster when you know what you're doing and not planning from scratch! (decided I had to test the pattern instructions and Rachel is very kindly testing them too for me!)
Closest finishes:
#1 The Black and White circle quilt
It had a tiny hole in it. I considered everyone's kind suggestions, and drew a pretty darn good poppy (if I do say so myself). Decided to try appliqueing that on. I *think* that's going to work... Cindy very wisely said "There are no mistakes in quilting....just more opportunities to create something other than what we originally expected". :o) Cindy is joining the Mug Rug World Tour with in Iowan themed mugrug. OOOH and check out the new Canadian mugrug on the main page! Linky no 5. :)
#2 Soul Flowers
Got the borders almost on. Discovered I was 20cm short of white homespun to finish them off. Grrr. Put it away again. NOT looking forward to basting this (don't have enough space to baste a QS - will have to beg a friend's floor to use).

New secret project for 2012!
Any tips on prioritising?!!! Is anyone else this appallingly bad at finishing projects?! Is there some sort of quilting Wooden Spoon Award I can have?! Maybe I should say "no more fabric for Laura until you finish a quilt (or three)!" Yeah, like that's going to work!
The soul flowers top is so pretty. And clever solution for that hole. I don't think there's a reason for a walk of shame at all! Otherwise, I'll have to join in, because I haven't even started on my mug rug yet...
ReplyDeleteI think the poppy looks great. In fact I think all your quilts are great. I don't know how you can call this a walk of shame. I'd be so proud if I'd done half as much :)
ReplyDeletethat's not a walk of shame (said in my best 'strine accent a la crocodile dundee!!) - you've go some gorgeous work there - and very clever re the 'hole' incident - looks like you meant it!
ReplyDeleteHi Laura! Beautiful quilts and lots of quilts going on! That's not bad, you can work always depending about your mood! That 'Calling for home' looks very exiting!
ReplyDeletexxx Teje
Those black & white circles are gorgeous! It's going to be stunning when you're finished.
ReplyDeleteNothing ventured, nothing gained. I think having a choice of what to work on at any given time is a big plus.I need at least one quilting project and one small take-along project.
ReplyDeleteThat soul flowers is BEAUTIFUL - and I feel the same every week with my lack of quilting, but never fear, we all have our walk of shame weeks, but this is NOT it for you!
ReplyDeleteAs you know, love the Rabbit Quilt...LOL....and the fix for the circles looks great!! As for the walk of shame...Um, gonna have to bump you back in line some..I have, um, yeah, more than you do...LOL...Enough said!!
ReplyDeleteP.S. Have you thought of hand basting the quilt? I found a tutorial and have tried it on a small quilt and one that is 80 x 80 (inches) and it has worked fantastic. I am sold. No more pins or sprays for me...LOL. For the record, I have actually sat in a chair and moved the quilts and basted them on a table. Didn't think it would "work" with the big one, but it did!
I don't know that there is a good way to prioritize.
ReplyDeleteIf you want to get the most projects completed in the shortest amount of time go for the smallest and most complete projects first.
OR
You could give all of those lovely half finished projects away and they would no longer be your problem. :0)
I think you're doing pretty darn good. More than I can say for myself. I think as long as you're moving forward it's great!
ReplyDeleteYour soulflowers quilt top is really pretty!
ReplyDeleteOnce, I basted a quilt on the nice, wide sidewalk outside of my townhouse at 3 am... I had tons of room and didn't have to worry about cleaning up basting spray gunk! I live in a very safe neighborhood. :)
finishing projects? I'm getting worse at even getting them started! Your items look wonderful.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colors! I like how you work with colors. Through synesthesia I see colors when I hear names and numbers, this is fun.
ReplyDeletenice b&w circle! I made one a couple years ago very similar to that and bordered it in pink for my infant daughter. The poppy is the perfect addition to solve your problem! That soul flowers top is amazing too, finish that puppy up!
ReplyDeleteI love the black and white quilt! I have a ton of unfinished quilt tops too! No words of wisdom from me I'm afraid... LOL
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely not a walk of shame!! I love LOVE the soul flowers top. :)
ReplyDeleteI love your post! Your list looks a lot like mine. I'm thinking of having a WIP finish challenge just to finish some of mine off. Interested?
ReplyDeleteI love the soul flowers quilt. The colors are wonderful. I think the poppy makes a great accent and really pops off the black and white.
