Hurrah! It's time to draw the Sew Mama Sew giveaway! (Double hurrah, I
found out how to number comments so I didn't have to count up to 600+).
This is not a strongly prescribed quiltalong. I am going to offer a range of choices and options, so if you are not too confident with free motion quilting, there will options that enable you to come up with a fantastic looking quilt. Basic beginner skills are required.
For the Quiltalong, you need:
- a range of solids in 6.5" squares
- a solid binding colour, cut into 2.5" strips to sash each 6.5" square (Pink Castle Fabrics offers jelly rolls in a range of solid colours - perfect for sashing your squares - remember your 15% off!).
- 11" squares (times the number of squares you are doing) for backing each square
- 11" squares of wadding, preferably the same type. I am using white-n-warm and warm-n-natural because that is what I have scraps of. I am going to do a 'how to' on joining batting scraps for those thrifty people who have been hoarding scraps
- For less confident, newer FMQ'ers, invisible or matching thread; for intermediate, a medium contrast thread (eg grey); if you're super confident or ready to see all your stitches, go for a high contrast thread like white.
If you're really interested in developing your FMQ skills, I'm going to suggest you also link up with Sew Cal Girls' 2012 Free Motion Quilting Challenge.

Thank you to everyone who entered and to all the new followers and those who have decided to join in the FMQAL. Roll on 2012!

Congrats to the winner!
ReplyDeleteAnd I need to learn how to number the comments so I don't have to count!! Help?
Congratulation Judee! Laura you are really tempting me with this QAL, I might have to join in!! I'm going to raid my scraps and see what I can come up with - how many jelly rolls do I need? Are you using solids for the back too? My fmq is still a bit dodgy but I could always donate the quilt if I hate it!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Laura! I have already received a message from Pink Castle that my package is in the mail. WooHOO! I am sorely tempted by the QAL.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to you Judee! What a great xmas present! Laura, how did you figure out how to number the comments on blogger? Have a great weekend, Kim C
