Hello! I'm back and I'm warning you, I woke up at 4am, didn't get back to sleep until 6, alarm went off at 6:30, I went to work, got called to super important meeting at Parliament House with a Minister (never been there before, was quite awed) so I'm not sure how much sense I'll make. I'm pressing Schedule and then going to bed!
We're still on landscapes and seascapes, so I've stuck with my orange toned blocks for the landscapes and the blue for the seascapes.
Landscape 2
Orange tones, for many of my friends in the Northern Hemisphere, mean autumn. For me and many Australians, rusty tones are the tones of our summer, when the land is parched of water and non- hardy plants start to wither and turn brown. The glorious red Australian 'Christmas Trees' come into flower. The following vine with its leaves turning down to deflect the hot sun is a nice Australian look for me. And I always seem to be battling with some creeper or other, whether wisteria or ivy or (at the moment) rogue wild passionfruit (no fruit dammit!), so here is 'my' block.
If this is not original, forgive me. I'm sure it's not. I may have seen someone or other do something similar - I really can't remember... But let's face it, I could decide to do a cross-dressing-tap-dancing-otters FMQ pattern and Leah's probably already done it. ;) But I'll save that for next week. JUST JOKING!
It's nice and easy and flowy, which is how I like my FMQing. :)
Here's how I did it.
Seascape 2
This block is another Leah Day, Sea Oats, which for her, are a grass that grows near the beach. To me, they were more reminiscent of seaweed, hence the blue. Take a look at Leah's one first. Mine I'm not totally happy with. I didn't get the 'lean' or the flow like sea currents swaying seaweed that Leah did. And it took me a bit of practice to work out a way of doing them that I was happy with. I'd practice drawing this one first!

I like the little baby ones. :) Ok, it all looks nice, but I do like how Leah's lean and wave a bit more.
So there are our first four landscape/seascape based blocks. Next week is linky party. How are you going with your blocks? Any inspirations for landscapes from your own area?
If I wasn't already neck deep in a quilt, I'd love to quilt along with you. I am new to FMQ so this project would be good practice for me. I'll definitely be following along.

ReplyDeleteI just finished Blocks 1 and 2 of this row. I am working on a small landscape that will be able to use the landscape 1 design nicely.
ReplyDeleteI listened to the YouTube! You sound nothing like I imagined ... (though maybe I was imagining a cross-dressing-tap-dancing-sewing-machine-wrecking-FMQer!) ... you sound very refined and composed, not like the sewing machines are driving you to the brink of insanity! (I'm already on the brink peering into the void that is sewing machine hell ... see you there!)

ReplyDeleteI have finally caught up! I may have gone on a few tangents with a couple of the blocks...I've never really gotten into YouTube (until now!) those vids that Leah has done are just a little bit awesome. Will try to get some pics up ASAP, can't wait for the next link up ;)

ReplyDeleteLol! Never worry about being similar to another design - it's ridiculous to try to copyright this kind of thing - it's a leaf! You can't copyright a leaf shape!
