Saying Goodbye...

Today I said goodbye to my shadow, my friend and my faithful companion of the last 11 years, Patches, quiltdog extraordinaire. Lainey and I are going to be lost without you.

    I'm so sorry Laura - it's something I'm dreading as our Shadow is getting on in years (nearly 15 now, which is very good for a German Shepherd)
    It horrible loosing an unquestioning companion

    I lost my first cat Sidney 8 years ago this April and it still brings a tear to my eye when I remember it. There comes a time when you know it's the right time, but you still get to hold on to all the lovely memories and you have 11 years of them to cherish!     So sorry.. Patches will be waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge, and in the meantime, my Benji and Missy will be there to keep Patches company.. they're probably enjoying a fine game of "catch the cricket" as we speak! :-) Losing our beloved pets is one of the hardest things... they give us their all and ask for not much in return...

    So sorry to hear that Laura. Its like loosing a family member when a pet dies. Lets hope he's gone to the big field in the sky with endless bones to nibble, and tails to chase :-) xxx

    Oh Laura, I am so, so sorry. I know exactly how you are feeling....I had to say goodbye to my Buster on Wednesday. I'm heartbroken and full of grief, but knew it was the right decision. And although it's never an easy decision to make, at least we can offer that bit of humanity to our furry friends. You will need time to grieve, but then you will be left with all the wonderful memories that you and Patches made together. I'll be thinking of you!

    There will be other pets but none can replace the one that was lost. I can still look back on the past ten pups (and the cats that came along with them) and nothing will prepare for the day we say goodbye to Nikko. Hugs!

    So sorry. We,too, just lost our dog of 15 years. Hubs and I talk about all the fun we had with our old girl and it helps. May good memories be your comfort.

    I'm so sorry for your loss. I had to say good-bye to a dog when he developed cancer, he was 7 years old. I understand the sadness and the expectation that you will see your dog when you walk into a room and then the disappointment when he/she isn't there. :(

    I'm so sorry to read of your loss. Having had to do this myself, I know that it is so hard to do. I'm still grieving for my last boys, but we had some wonderful years. So glad to see that you'll have some great memories too.

    I'm so sorry to hear this Laura. What a hard time. But you have great memories and photos of your little boy, so he'll never be completely gone.

    And now I'm hoping I didn't misremember, and he is actually a she. Unisex names are so confusing. Remember that next time you get a new furbaby ;)
