Retreat: Part 2 (In which we sew)

WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced
After showing you all that food we had on retreat, I should probably show you the sewing we did. I had the misfortune to get caught in a violent altercation between the car door which slammed open HARD against the bin as I was loading my last bag in the car to go to retreat. My hand broke up the fight. Luckily, it didn't break, but it did HURT (I said some naughty words and screamed a bit) and I wasn't able to do a lot with my right (dominant) hand. Things like tying shoelaces and tying my hair back were beyond me. So I DIDN'T get done what I'd hoped to.

Soul Flowers
I was hoping to get the Flower Fairies finished, and some unpicking and marking and quilting of my Soul Flowers quilt done. I have started and changed my mind on how to quilt this twice already. Sigh. Unfortunately, free-motion quilting seemed out of the question with a black and blue immobile thumb.

The best I could manage was some straight line quilting and piecing of some already cut strips. I did get my Ruby Rail quilting done. I went with two straight lines either side of the coloured rails.

I couldn't wield a rotary cutter to square it off and bind it, so it is still a WIP.
I also got a few more squares of my OhFransson Paintbox quilt done. This one has been on the back burner for a while.
These last two photos are courtesy of McKenna - better than my usual standard!
Luckily, there were plenty of spare hands to help out, and plenty of sewing machines!

A good time was had by all!

But I have to say I'm disappointed you didn't show pics of everything you made at retreat.... Where's the oic of the blue black hand? :)

  7. Love a sewing retreat! Terrible timing to hurt your hand though. You guys need another table, you look like you're fighting for elbow room! Last time I shared a table with someone at a workshop I ended up dragging one of her pieces under the fabric I was sewing and well and truly stitched it to the back of my applique piece!
