My parents live in a seaside settlement north of Perth, in rather a large house. They often suggest I go and stay for a weekend when they are away. This time I took them up on the offer, and kinda invited 5 friends from the Perth Modern Quilt Guild to go with me... It felt a bit like a teenage house party, with sewing machines instead of boys. And much more sophisticated fare.
Somebody (it might have been me) suggested that the two American girls do breakfast. As McKenna said, NO ONE does breakfast better than Americans. They did their patriotic duty and did you all proud. Look at these cinnamon buns!

There was a little bit of a civil war in the kitchen over the corned beef hash, between New York and Arkansas, but all was sweet in the end.
McKenna actually found American bacon in Perth, so we had a happy Yankee. Pancakes, hash browns and real maple syrup rounded off the menu on day one.
We do believe in a healthy balanced meal to start the day!
We skipped lunch after our marathon brunch, and headed to the Yanchep Inn which is in the national park, where a Christmas in July dinner was in full swing. There were kangaroos on the front lawn, so there was no question of being in Kansas any more.

The quilt dogs accompanied us, of course, and found plenty of new fans to worship them, laps to sit on and quilts to walk on. I believe some American bacon also found its way under the table. Melody DID break into Janine's bag and eat six cod liver oil tablets and open a bag of flour (white powder - drug problem dog?). No ill effects fortunately.
We were thoroughly spoiled by a little treat McKenna brought along.
That's just how we roll in the Perth Modern Drinking Eating Quilt Guild! I'll show the quilts next time!
Sounds like a delightful time. Looks like a normal breakfast to me...what do you usually eat?
ReplyDeleteI'M MOVING TO PERTH!
ReplyDeleteI could hardly get past those cinnamon buns - YUM!! Looks like an amazing time was had :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun. And reminds me, it's been a while since I made pancakes for breakfast. I always keep maple syrup (the real stuff) in the fridge. Gotta be ready for the impromptu breakfast feast ;)
ReplyDeleteMaybe your problem dog was a drug sniffer dog in a former life. But developed a drug habit and that's why she hd to be rehomed
mmmm - moet - i might have to go west!
ReplyDeleteWe had SUCH a good time. Its it was awful the way we had to rough it at Laura's parents luxury seaside mansion with ocean views. The food and drink was pretty good too.
ReplyDeleteMcKenna
So did you end up with the same problem I had after my last sewing retreat? Very croaky voice after talking and sewing until after midnight both nights. Mind you that brekkie and the champagne cocktails would have worked a charm on repairing it!
ReplyDeleteYay I am so happy that I was one of the invited friends! We had such a blast, and got some sewing done. Got to watch Bridget Jones Diary and perve Colin Firth all over again. A great girls' weekend away really. Love your write up Laura. Janine x
ReplyDeleteBreakfast looks fab!
ReplyDeleteAs for Melody, I'm sure the cod liver oil would flush out any other little problems ;o)
