I'm cheating. This is Not My Quilt.
I've been 'Quilt Tutor' for a while for a couple of friends who wanted to start quilting. Tuesday nights are often sewing nights, which usually means I get no sewing done but a lot of consultation and tutoring. :) I don't mind. I LOVE teaching. I do miss being in the classroom with a load of pubescent hormonal monsters occasionally, but teaching the occasional adult quilting is a MUCH better option. :)
Sometimes, like with this quilt, I've gone all the way from working with the person to create an original design - have NEVER used a pattern with a beginner! - to teaching Free Motion Quilting and Applique, so it FEELS like my finish. And as Bev managed to put my sewing machine needle THROUGH my plastic walking foot (don't ask - is anyone else blanching in horror?), it certainly is Thank Goodness It's Finished!
So here you have Bev's first ever proper size quilt for her son's third birthday. I don't know if you can see but there's a giraffe on the final car of the train. Hugh was so impressed he stared at it for 2 minutes and then all he could say was "Giraffe" in awe...
And here are the quilt models - Hugh's older sisters - and Bev, the proud quilt-mummy. :)
Love the quilt!
ReplyDeleteThat is an adorable quilt. She (and you) did a great job. I'm still trying to figure out the needle throught the walking foot though.
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt...awesome job, teacher!

Nice finish, Bev! Laura, how nice it must be to pass on the gift of quilting to someone else and watch them create something amazing. Kudos to you!
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt! Loving that little giraffe. It's those little touches that add something really special to a quilt!
ReplyDeleteLove that you're sharing your quilty skills Laura!
Wow!! I LOVE the applique train! What a perfect touch! And condolences for your plastic foot :S
ReplyDeleteSOOOO cute! I love how bright and fun it is! Seriously adorable.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great first quilt! Bev did a great job and so did you!
ReplyDeleteI love that Laura is sharing her quilt knowledge too :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that the quilt is finished, I had a month to make it in all, though I had the fabric and some ideas in my head before then (I was overseas for a month).
Hugh loves his quilt, so far, it has been a great hiding place and a dinosaur world. Who knows what else we will manage to do with it! This is not a quilt to be wrapped in cotton wool, it was created to be used and loved.
Laura, you truly are a great teacher, thank you!
Wow! What a great quilt! I love the name in the middle. You must be a really good teacher :)
ReplyDeleteHee hee, love the giraffe. Through the foot with the needle though, WTF?!
ReplyDeleteI love it! She did a fantastic job, with the help of a great teacher. Well done to both of you! :o)
ReplyDeletelol at "not my finish friday". :) Lovely quilt!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great first quilt and such good news that Hugh loved it. Great work Bev. And you Laura for helping to create it.
ReplyDeleteTrying to work out how the needle went through the foot and can't. Makes my head hurt :)
