The absolute highlight was meeting Danny and our other roomie, Erica, followed by meeting Cori (who flew in from Cal at the same time as me) and some of the other lovelies like Jen, Sara, Claire and another Cavvie lover, Aimless Amy.

The absolute standout teacher was Sarai Mitnick of Collette patterns who taught a class in sewing with specialist fabrics. Being used to education conferences where most of the presenters are, well, educators, it was difficult for me to take off my teacher-evaluation hat. In Sarai's, it wasn't a problem. This is someone who KNOWS her subject matter, how to present it and how to teach it.
We were given lovely little cards with samples of all different types of 'special occasion' fabric, and detailed information on how to cut, sew and hem. This card is going to be one of my best references. She was amazing.
I also really enjoyed meeting the lovely Sara of SewSweetness who presented a class on advanced bag making.
These gorgeous bags provided lots of inspiration, and I even got to hold the rainbow one for a while to deliver to Katy to deliver to Hadley. (Hadley, it may get lost in transit - just warning you).
I also saw Jeni Baker's presentation on fabric selection.
Much to Erin (of MissyMac's) disappointment, we were not given Kona colour cards as happened last year. Erin had already baggsied my old Kona card.
We got Michael Miller cards instead. :) Sorry Erin...
That's a nice segue into Donktober....
She met a lot of lovely people and animals, including Kim and this buffalo.
And she was rather overwhelmed by Joel Dewberry's delicious new line - she wants it ALL.
The other highlight of course, was the ASS guru-s all getting together, but you will have to wait for photos of that. Katy and I have been too busy with travel to process many photos yet. :)

it sounds like you are loving every minute of it Laura. I love the photos and all the news. Keep it coming. xxxx
ReplyDeleteSo is it Erica or Erika? Or can't she decide? :P
