The Weird and the Wonderful

Americans and photographers look away and stop reading now. I am going to take the piss find humour in some of American thingummies (technical term) via iPhone photos.

Here is a pictorial representation of the weird and the wonderful so far.

Wonderful

Hawaii

Waikiki beach at sunset

Scenery and colours

Food

Fish tacos

Cinnabuns

Humorous beer
All flavours of ice-cream

Quilt shops

Weird

Dominance of God, guns and politics

(I DID say Americans were to stop reading. This IS weird to an Australian. I understand it's cultural. It's my blog and if I think it's weird, I'll say so thank you very much).
The other window of this shop (?) covered ALL basis. Parents for Obama. Single parents for Obama. LBGT for Obama. Shooters for Obama. Latinos for Obama. Cowboys for Obama. Veterans and military families for Obama. Obama for Obama...

 PRIMITIVE baptist church???!!! How so?!
Don't y'all forget your liqour before you go out shooting now... (We are DEFINITELY not in Utah any more Toto).

Jewellery, arts and crafts, and guns - all in one place. What more could a girl want?!

And please note the gun mounting on this vehicle:

It was an 'Urban Assault Vehicle' (our neighbours at a camp site). We were safe in the event of a zombie apocalypse. Most reassuring.

Weird AND wonderful

  1. Glad you are having fun! I grew up in a hunting household, but when I lived in Virginia there were enough guns and confederate flags to shock me! Oh and Texas has DRIVE-THRU Liquor stores!

  2. Love the beach! That has to be the top of my list for fave beaches I have visited. Yes, Americans are passionate about many things and I laughed at all your pictures! You'll have to visit the Jersey shore sometime to see a whole different side of the country, haha.

  3. Many Americans think the dominance of God, guns, and politics is weird too. Count me in.

  4. What I want to know is...what's sew boab? Oh yes, the weird and the wonderful. Why did you not put Big Jesus in there? I would have. I guess you have to visit Americky to get the weirdness of it but you've certainly given us some top pointers. I want to live next door to an urban assault vehicle and be safe from zombies. Fantastical stuff. x

  5. Sounds like you need an interpreter for your next American expedition. ;) I know just enough about guns, religion, and American politics to sound convincing and prevent any cultural snafus. Am I hired? :D

  6. Those are simply terrific photos and love the captions! Yep, we Americans *are* weird but weird in an American sort of way.

I've seen weirdness from other countries and it's reassuring that weirdness is universal. :-)

I had to really STOP and look at your Monument Valley pictures. My husband and I were at *that exact spot* in *those exact chairs*! Weird.

  7. Those Americans sure like their guns...'right to bear arms' and all!

  8. Dude, I AM an American and even *I* think that the prevalence of God and guns is rather excessive. As for the politics, that's probably just because we have an election in two weeks. It's usually not that bad.

And to the previous commenter, not ALL Americans like guns. I have never even touched one. ;-)

  9. Ask Katy about Louis Theroux (if you don't get to his TV programmes in Oz), he is my hero xxx

  10. From a country that has little right to bear arms, it is a little weird!

Yippee - you're commenting! I _love_ comments. :) I've had so much spam lately though that I'm limiting to registered users for a bit to see if that works... If you're a friend, you can find me on Facebook and comment that way if you have trouble.
