Stash love ...

Last week, I woke up to the sad news that US postage was increasing yet again. Ms QuiltJane wrote on Facebook:
USPS international envelope will now be $US23.95 to Australia. This is like 2.4 yards of fabric being sucked up into shipping. Certainly depressing news for the fabric enthusiast. Based on a 7 yard parcel, the price of fabric per yard will be approx. $13.70.

At this rate, it would be more economical to save up for a ticket than keep ordering fabric. It's only 75 parcels worth of postage for a return ticket to LA. I haven't seen quite that much reflected in postage of some of my favourite shops, but I'm sure it won't be long...

Luckily, I'd got in with a couple of end of year orders before the price rise.

One of my parcels was from the lovely Julie at Intrepid Thread. She had a 20% off sale on Christmas night. I got confused and ordered at the wrong time but she gave me the 20% off anyway! Wasn't that sweet?!
There's a few meters of Architextures there that is intended to become a skirt. I couldn't resist the animals in Mon Amis!

And what else can you see in there?!

If you said Salt Water by Tula Pink, you'd be right!

The other fabrics here were from FabricShack.com which always has half price shipping. I think that's going to be about the only place I can afford to order from. I just can't  I just need to find some fabric couriers. Or use my stash. 2013 - year of the stash use...

  2. Yeah, I saw the shipping increase is due at the end of this month, damnit! That's actually twice in just over a year it's gone up, because when I first ordered stuff in November '11 it was $13.95!

    Enjoy the new haul!

  3. At least you've got some lovely fabrics to be going on with! It's depressing here too. All those amazing US bargains but once you add postage the savings disappear :(

  4. Laura, you have there so much beautiful fabric! I love that Architext line and your idea to use it for a skirt is great! That will be super! Sad news in deed about the shipping. Already it has been too expensive! x Teje

  7. Great fabrics, Laura. I knew there had been a shipping increase - all a bit sad! I must check out Fabric Shack as I didn't realise they had half price shipping!

  9. I LOVE The Intrepid Thread...Julie always sorts stuff out for me! I'll have to go and look at Fabricshack! I bought a 36 fat quarter bundle off etsy the other day with $16.95 shipping so I'm guessing it hasn't gone up yet?

  10. Totally noice fabrics Laura! Let's just go to LA. xx Although, I think you ought to use some of your stash, or maybe give some away to deserving friends! :)

  11. Or, you could move here and not have to deal with the crazy shipping prices! :) I love the Mon Amis. I really want to get some of that before it's OOP. Just need a way to make money. Any suggestions?

  12. I'm sorry about the postal increase. Really, it's sad. No one wants to cut into their fabric budget for shipping...How can this be fixed??? I also bought some of the Salt Waters...love them.

Yippee - you're commenting! I _love_ comments. :) I've had so much spam lately though that I'm limiting to registered users for a bit to see if that works... If you're a friend, you can find me on Facebook and comment that way if you have trouble.
