The top is together and the quilt is basted. I crawled around on the pavement basting it in the dark after a 40C day. The dogs sat at the flywire door wondering what the crazy human was up to. (I think the smell of the basting spray may have been alluring too).
I have started FMQing in a lovely Aurifil 40 weight thread. I'm not 100% happy with how it's going but ... this is the way it wants to go with this quilt. Organic. We'll see how it turns out at the end.
Leaves and vines grow up the quilt - I wanted to continue on with the growth and new life theme that permeates the front of the quilt. I'm very happy with the back. I use a lot of solids in my quilt backs due to the cost of fabric here.
It's coming together. It's growing. I think I know its future owner now too... It has a deadline, unfortunately - someone's 'last chance chemo'. I'd like to have it finished before then. But we shall see.
beautiful and very inspiring quilt and story... hope you get to finish it soon!
ReplyDeleteThe leaves and vine are amazing. I'll be "rooting" for you to get it done by the time you wish to! x
ReplyDeleteThat's really beautiful, Laura! I love all the colours, quilting and the backing! I hope this brings goo luck! x Teje
ReplyDeleteI love that the tree theme has continued into the quilting. Sorry to hear that the recipient's chemo will be last chance. Hopefully it's the one that does it
ReplyDeleteThe quilting's looking great so far, and surely organic's what you want in a tree ;o)

ReplyDeleteYour quilting looks so great. I love how you pieced the backing too.
ReplyDeleteI love your vine quilting, great choice. Hope you can get it finished quickly and bring some quilt love to someone who needs it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet quilt to make; I am truly loving the organic quality of the work. You only get better with time, thank you so much for sharing with us about your spot in this project. I do hope you will tell us the story of when it is presented to its new owner!
