I was also vaguely hoping I might get a chance to do something with THIS before my turn came, but sadly, it was not to be. Robust good health meant I have been unable to throw a sicky (Aussie slang for cutting work) all week since this arrived.
But I can't wait to get into it. I'd love to hear in the comments what layer cake pattern you'd use with Sunnyside!
I felt honoured when Alyce asked me to join the Kate Spain bloghop. Anyone who has been reading this blog for any amount of time knows that we are BIG Kate Spain fans around here.
Not only do Kate's designs look lovely, I have it on good authority that they taste delicious too! (Endorsed by three out of four Cavalier King Charles Spaniels).
At the risk of sounding a wee bit stalkerish, one of the GREAT excitements of my life since re-starting sewing and blogging was receiving a bundle of Good Fortune Scraps from Kate herself.
As a thank you to Kate for her kindness in sending me this bag, I made her a bag and sent it over.
On Sunday, I am teaching a beginner's patchwork and quilting class. The project we are going to make is an iPad cover. I decided to kill several birds with one stone and make my sample up with some of the Good Fortune Scraps Kate sent me, which also gives me a TGIFF finish into the deal.
I used a double layer of batting - White 'n' warm and a wool batting - to give extra ipad protection. It means it's a bit puffier than I'd like but the ipad will be snuggly safe.
You can see how well the wonky star puffs out!
Here are a few of my other KS projects...
Now, if you'd like to join the linky party for TGIFF, feel free to add your link below. ReplyDeleteYou can always take my germs if you want :P I love the puffy star!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing - I love your Terrain quilt - so pretty.
ReplyDeleteMmmm Kate Spain... She is one designer who I do not have much of in my stash and I NEED to! Loving all this fabric goodness. Thank you for showing your almost finished quilt. ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quilt!
ReplyDeleteadorable iPad cover! The puffy Warm and Wool will keep it nice and safe!

Love how the Terrain quilt looks! No suggestions on a layer cake pattern but look forward to seeing what you make with Sunnyside!
ReplyDeleteThe quilt looks fab and I love your cover - you're doing well despite not being able to pull a sicky (we say that too!) :) x
ReplyDeleteI love the puffiness of the case. It's like a sleeping bag :) Nice.
ReplyDeleteThe Terrain Quilt looks good! I especially like the way the block creates an all over design and the way you have controlled value in a scrappy quilt.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a favorite layer cake pattern, but your quilt is beautiful--love that fabric!!
ReplyDeletethat sunnyside sure has some yummy prints in it! that will be so fun to work with.
ReplyDeleteyour steppingstones quilt it look great. i love the multi-layered pattern.
You've been busy. Even with the pins :)
ReplyDeleteLooking dorward to seeing the quilt when it's finished. Looking good so far
Love your Terrain Stepping Stones! So colorful and lots of contrast... my kind of quilt.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the Linky party, too.
Hugs
i'm so jealous of your gift of fabric, that purple colorway is hard to find, love your breed of dogs its the one i want most, love their personality its like the think they are royalty or something lol, actually i want one the is cross with a poodle, sil has the sweetest one. lol thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Terrain quilt - thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteAhh, so it's not like the American concept of having a set number of sick days to use up over there either then - wish we had!
ReplyDeleteLove Kate Spain too! Your pups are too cute.
ReplyDeletePretty quilt! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYour Stepping Stones quilt is looking fabulous, Laura! Love those fabrics together in the iPad cover.
ReplyDeleteI love all Kate's fabric lines so I'm loving this blog hop. I can't wait to see more. Your Terrain quilt is turning out great. I have yet to decide what to do with my Terrain.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty bag! I love the quilting on it. :)
ReplyDeletenice post, I'm a Kate Spain stalker too. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteLoving your Terrain Quilt!!! And the little bag is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI would use the Moda Bake Shop pattern called "Dark Side Layer Cake Quilt". The Sunnyside collection has the equivalent amounts of dark, medium and light fabrics to pull off the look.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt looks great already. Hope you have time to finish it soon! And your ipad case looks fab too :) 11 hours of sunlight in Winter sounds good from here!
ReplyDeleteFun post! I am planning a Treasure Box quilt, by TraceyJay, for my two charm packs of HoneyHoney...would be beautiful with Sunnyside, maybe too similar to your gorgeous Stepping Stones...Ahhh the choices :)
ReplyDeleteIf I cannot find In From The Cold fabrics, then may make that quilt using other Kate Spain fabrics. The quilt is very cute. Otherwise, a mini charm or another precut of Kate Spain may find itself in the running. Hands-down my 12 days of Christmas will be the "old" quilt I want to link. It depends on how that evil cancer is treating me at linky time.
ReplyDeletei am a cat person, but those dogs of yours-ah I mean fur children are just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the preview of your wonderful quilt. The design is very pretty, and I want to make one like it too! This is the first that I've seen Sunnyside and the collection is gorgeous. Yes, I want some of that collection too! I guess I have those dreaded I wants for fabrics --- so can make something for the linky.
ReplyDeleteLove your sweet Calalier's!!!! they are my favorite dogs, and one day I'm going to get one! :-) And I love your stepping stones quilt: where did you get the pattern, or who is it by so I can look for it? Thanks so much!! Hugs, Helen in Healdsburg
ReplyDeleteThe double layer of batting gives the iPad cover great texture! I'm thinking of playing around with multiple layers of batting to see what kind of effects I get. I just bought some wool batting for the first time, but yet to quilt with it, I understand that it's good for wall hangings :)
