QAYGFMQAL: Joining blocks

I have nothing for TGIFF this week - still working on finishing that darn Rabbit Tree for QuiltWest, our state's biggest craft and quilting event, which kicks off in a little under two weeks. But it's over at M-R's so go on over and say hi.

I haven't done a linky party for the final row of the FMQAL because I'd like to give people a few more weeks to finish off and then feature the finished quilts on the blog. But I came across what must be one of the cutest 'quilt your own adventure blocks' from Pat at Colour Me Quilty. Go and have a look at her other blocks - they're great! Please do let me know when you hit a milestone in this project -I'd love to feature it on the blog or at least provide a link to your work.

Pat's Corgi from Colour Me Quilty
Before I got panicked about the Rabbit Tree, I did join some of my blocks. I joined all the rows except the last, but now I have to join the rows together. I did mine all by machine with no bias binding. Carrying on with the Corgi theme, I used the following video. (Well, it's only a corgi theme because the lady sounds rather like the Queen. I imagine there are corgis under her quilting table). It's worth a listen just for the accent. :)

It's rather similar to this tutorial at Lily's quilts, except I didn't join my batting before sewing the seam, and I left more overlap and machined my seams. If you are worried about the batting moving, I'd iron on fusible interfacing strips again, just as we did to join the batting scraps to start with.

My progress
Leah Day has also done a tutorial on joining blocks using binding, and there are a heap of others around too. Here are a few so you can find one that suits you.

Let me know how you are going! I'm going back to the Rabbit Tree!

  1. Your quilt is looking fabulous, Laura! I love that grey border. I've done my sashing and am just waiting for some fabric I ordered to arrive so I can finish my binding. :)

  2. There was me thinking you were taking light relief from the rabbits by sketching the dogs (but didn't like to say it didn't look very spaniel like if you had ;o) )

Yippee - you're commenting! I _love_ comments. :) I've had so much spam lately though that I'm limiting to registered users for a bit to see if that works... If you're a friend, you can find me on Facebook and comment that way if you have trouble.
