It started off looking like this:
It involved A LOT of running backwards and forwards to my design wall at the other end of the house, and a LOT of sewing bits on and slashing them off, arranging and rearranging and but I finally have something to show for it. A full queen-size top in fact!
When I say a Queensize top, I mean it JUST covers the top of the mattress with no overhang, and I MUST have overhang, so there are borders to be added. It took a lot longer than I expected to get the spacing right - both in terms of spacing the blocks and making sure they weren't TOO aligned or too dense in parts and 'bald' in others. But I think I've done it...
Please note, this is Scarlett's first quiltshoot and I didn't pose her! I did pose Melody but as you can see, Monster's patience had worn thin.
I added some black bias binding after piecing to give a bit more random flow and might go back and add a piece or too more. You will have to wait and see what the borders look like (I'm dying to find out too!) but I DO know how I'm going to quilt this one, so hopefully it won't languish in the WIP pile for long!
Thanks for visiting and thanks to Lee for hosting WIP Wednesday!
What a fun quilt!
ReplyDeleteOooooh that looks so awesome! I love the way you spaced it out! Amazing. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Laura! Great start for this year! Scarlett is a quilting girl - she knew that was serious work!

It looks stunning! Cannot wait to see it finished!
ReplyDeleteseriously stunning! Look forward to seeing how you quilt this one.
ReplyDeleteI love this quilt top Laura! Well done, you've placed the blocks perfectly!
ReplyDeleteYou've spaced it out perfectly. Looks fantastic. Love it.
ReplyDeleteGreat job, looking forward to seeing it all finished (partly so I can work out where you stuck that binding...)
ReplyDeleteHappy new year!
I love it. I's like a painting! Perfect.
ReplyDeleteLove how you designed the quilt top. Looks fab! From the first picture, I though you stole the Partridge Family bus. (You may not be old enough to remember the TV show from the '70's). ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat an unusual and quirky quilt top. I love it!
ReplyDeleteI love it, too! Will be wonderful to see when it is quilted.
ReplyDeleteHugs - Lurline.
I absolutely love what you did with this quilt!!! I have followed it all along and I was worried... in that "blogland" kind of anonymous concern. I am such an obsessive, horrifying planner that I just couldn't see how things would "match up". I should have known that there was no cause for alarm because you came through with a brilliant idea. Love the trailing edges of the binding to lead the eye to another section - beautiful work and stunning design!
ReplyDeleteI love it! this will look spectacular on the bed when it's done. Great job~
ReplyDeleteWow! I really like the look of the quilt. It's really eye catching.
ReplyDeleteThat's really neat -- I like the way you've spaced the blocks. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a great quilt.
ReplyDeleteWow, I love the look of this! It reminds me of the older Loreal or whatever hair company used to have a logo with those colors! I am stopping by from the WIP hop, I would love to have you come by and see what I have been up to :) http://domesticdeficitdisorder.blogspot.com/2013/01/wip-wednesday.html
ReplyDeleteI liked the first picture....and then scrolled down...and LOVE the finished product! WOW! it is stunning...great job!
ReplyDeleteWow, Laura! This is really clever and gorgeous. Nicely done!
ReplyDeletereally captures mondrian well and ended up so nice and big! all that walking back and forth just means you can eat some candy as a reward.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Such a great modern quilt!
ReplyDeleteCan I just say that I love this? :) The extra breathing space around each block is perfect and really does help balance the quilt. Your pups are natural models too. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt! Well done!
ReplyDeleteI love it. And Scarlet did such a great job posing all by herself. Maybe she lost interest after she realised she wasn't the subject of your photoshoot :)
ReplyDeleteI love this Laura! Never seen anything like it :)
